Max Sabbatani returns in optimistic mood

Max Sabbatani, one of several injured riders to have missed the last two rounds of the 125cc World Championship, has now almost fully recovered from a badly broken leg and is optimistic of contesting the Cinzano British Grand Prix. The diminutive Italian thought he may never ride again when complications in the operation after his spectaular spill at Mugello just over one month ago put the limb under serious threat of amputation. However, thanks to intensive work by a team of medics working under the guidance of the revered Dr. Costa, Sabbatani is now walking freely with the use of a single crutch.

Barring any unsolicited surprises Max will be at Donington Park to reclaim his place in the Team Bossini Sterilgarda Racing squad. The 27 year old´s return, should he complete the practice and qualifying sessions without any adverse reaction to the injury, will spell the end of the season for his substitute Gigi Scalvini.

Sabbatani admitted that it is through impatience and his desire for the sport that he has returned to the Grand Prix fold in such a short space of time. He now hopes to make up the lost ground in the championship and join the fight for podium positions with the two riders who have impressed him most over the last two races, Dani Pedrosa and Joan Olivé.
