Rossi claims his 46th victory on his 100th GP appearance

In Donington Park, Valentino Rossi clinched another win, his 46th career victory on his 100th Grand Prix appearance. It´s the seventh victory of the Italian rider, victim of a huge crash on the first day. Carlos Checa was the first leader of the race before crashing out on the 18th lap. From the start, Rossi was on his trail while Biaggi was lying in third.

After Checa´s crash, Rossi increased his pace to get definitively out of reach of Biaggi. Behind the Yamaha rider, Barros was a lonely third. The battle for the fourth position was pretty open with Roberts gradually losing ground to the Japanese riders Aoki, Abe, Harada and Kato. Abe eventually took the fourth spot, while Olivier Jacque went back to a well-deserved fifth place. Gibernau finished the race in sixth, ahead of Kato and Hopkins.

Rossi increased his championship lead to 87 points over his team mate Ukawa ; Biaggi is now third with 106 points, with a two points lead over Barros.
