The 125 World reigning Champion has been the fastest in the first qualifying practice session. Poggiali took the lead on minute 11 and went on improving his lap times until the end of the session, though he walked away unhurt from a crash, in the first free practice session.

The San Marino rider has been challenged by Sanna, Borsoi and Pedrosa in the early stages of the session, until he managed to improve by 8 tenths of a second to get definitively out of reach. Behind, it has been an intense battle for the second position, eventually clinched by Donington winner, Arnaud Vincent. Local hero Steve Jenkner classified in third, ahead of Daniel Pedrosa.

De Angelis heads the second row of the provisional grid, completed by Pablo Nieto, Lucio Cecchinello, and Simone Sanna, winner in Germany last year.
