Rossi takes seventh consecutive win in an action-packed race

Valentino Rossi raced his Honda RC211V to a seventh consecutive win at the Cinzano Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, held at the Sachsenring. The main leaders of the race have been Olivier Jacque and Alex Barros, until they crashed out three laps before the finish. Finally, Biaggi and Ukawa completed the podium behind Rossi.

Ukawa was leading the pack in the early stages of the race, but Barros relegated the Japanese rider to second on the seventh lap. At this stage, the top 10 riders were grouped in two seconds. After a poor start, Rossi made his way through the pack to grab the lead on lap 19. Until then, Barros and Jacque had been leading the eight riders front pack. Behind, Kato, Kagayama and Gibernau went in contact and crashed. A bit later, Rossi made a mistake and nearly crashed, allowing Jacque and Barros to take the lead again. Second behind the former 250cc World Champion, the Brazilian crashed at the end of the straight ; Olivier Jacque was then caught by the Honda, and that left Rossi back in the lead. Carlos Checa took the flag in fourth, ahead of Nakano and Abe.

With this win, Rossi has a 96 points lead over Ukawa. Biaggi lies in third, 15 points behind the Japanese.
