Shinya Nakano´s return to form at the Sachsenring served to recover a lack of confidence which has dooged the Japanese rider throughout the first half of the 2002 MotoGP World Championship. Crashes at Suzuka, Jerez and Catalunya have impeded the Gauloises Yamaha Tech 3 man from showing the consistency which he demonstrated in his rookie season in 2001 and Nakano believes that after a summer of inactivity he feels completely rested and ready for the second half of the year.

`Even though it is extremely hot and I suffered from a little jetlag for a few days on my return to Japan I have been able to completely relax during the holidays,´ he explains. `I have really enjoyed seeing all my friends and family for meals and a short stay by the sea. I really have had an excellent time.´

`Last week I went to Yamaha headquarters in Shizuoka. I was able to check my physical status in some facilities near the factory. I did various tests, they measured my fat percentage, muscle sizes, things like that. The results were extremely positive compared with the tests they completed before the start of the championship. I clearly have no physical problems for the rest of the season. I also had the opportunity to meet with the factory staff and discuss the season so far. We also discussed the set-up for the rest of the season.´

Looking forward to the Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky next week, Nakano added: `Last year I injured my right wrist on the first day of qualifying so I am really excited about racing there because it was the only race that I missed. I want to fight with the leaders and I would like to think that the progress we made in Germany can continue for the rest of the season. Next Monday I will head to France and on Wednesday I will travel up to Brno.´
