Pablo Nieto takes provisional pole ahead of Pedrosa and Vincent

Pablo Nieto was the quickest 125cc rider at Brno today as he took provisional pole position for the Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky. The Spanish rider took top spot after battling throughout the session with teenage compatriot Daniel Pedrosa, who took second place just 0.28 seconds behind Nieto. Pedrosa and Poggiali both launched late attacks but were unable to improve on the time of 2´09.526 set by the Aprilia rider with around one minute and twenty seconds remaining.

Poggiali had taken an early control of the session, moving to the top of the time sheets after six minutes. The current World Champion held on to top spot for just two minutes, however, as Pedrosa stepped up the pace two minutes later. The young Spaniard almost fell as he continued to push and made no further improvement for the rest for the session, his best overall time consequently being set on his fourth lap.

Arnaud Vincent finally edged up to third place and is joined on the provisional front row by SImone Sanna. Poggiali eventually dropped back to the second row in seventh place, a position he was unable to improve despite his last lap effort, and he is joined by Gabor Talmacsi, Lucio Cecchinello and Alex de Angelis. Jorge Lorenzo did not take part after breaking a bone in his hand this morning and the youngster will miss Sunday´s race.
