Debut pole for De Angelis at Brno

The rise of Alex de Angelis continued apace at Brno today as the San Marino youngster took his first ever pole position. De Angelis, who finished second to Arnaud Vincent in the last round at Sachsenring, beat Simone Sanna by two tenths of a second. Also on the front row are championship contenders Dani Pedrosa and Manuel Poggiali whilst Vincent will start from the back of the second row in eighth place.

Pablo Nieto started the session at the top of the times sheets but it was Poggiali who took control after eight minutes. Just six minutes later, however, De Angelis set the benchmark and maintained top spot throughout the rest of the session as he continued to improve his lap times. Nieto eventually dropped back to the second row in seventh place, behind Steve Jenkner and Lucio Cecchinello.

Stefano Bianco, Christian Pistoni, Chaz Davies and Michel Fabrizio all crashed.
