Alzamora fighting fit after summer operation

Emilio Alzamora returns to competitive action this weekend after a frustrating two month absence which has seen the Spanish rider undergo an operation to cure a long-standing arm pump problem. Fortunately for Alzamora, the operation coincided with the summer break and he only missed one race, at Brno two weeks ago, and now he is 100% fit to make his return in Portugal.

`I saw the Brno race on television and it was a strange feeling – it made me want to get back on a bike more than ever,´ comments the former 125cc World Champion. `The operation was a complete success and that was proved by the recent tests we did down at Valencia. I felt much better on the bike than I have done all season and hopefully this weekend I can be back up with the elite of the class.´

Alzamora is not the only rider to have suffered from arm pump this year, with Kenny Roberts and Raul Jara also undergoing operations during the summer period. `The operation was basically the same as Kenny and Raul,´ he continues. `I think the official term is compartmentalisation of the muscle. Anyway, the main thing is that it seems to have worked and now I feel ready to show the world that I can be one of the top riders again.´
