Pedrosa takes pole at damp Estoril

Daniel Pedrosa dodged the showers at Estoril to take pole position for the 125cc race when many riders were unable to improve their provisional time. Lunchtime drizzle had left the track cold at the start of the session and only as it warmed up were Pedrosa and Mika Kallio able to raise the pace. The Spaniard clocked his fastest lap as the Finnish youngster forced his way onto the front row, only to be edged out by Steve Jenkner.

Manuel Poggiali, meanwhile, was unable to improve his pole time from yesterday before the rain returned and sent several riders spinning into the gravel in the closing stages of the session. The San Marino rider starts from second place ahead of Ui and Jenkner.

Kallio did not drop lower than fifth place and will tomorrow sit at the head of a second row which also features Simone Sanna, Mirko Giansanti and Lucio Cecchinello. Arnaud Vincent, just two points behinds series leader Poggiali in the current standings, heads the third row of the grid in 9th place.
