In this 11th round of the season, Rossi scored another victory aboard the V5 Honda in rain soaked conditions. Numerous crashes happened in all three races and there were only twelve finishers in the MotoGP class.

The story of the day happened to Telefonica Movistar Suzuki's Sete Gibernau. He came from the third row of the grid and worked his way up to the lead, and built up a six second gap over Rossi. In the early stages of the race, Valentino was only third or four, but the pace became faster and faster and Valentino close the gap down to 3.6 seconds. Unfortunately, Sete dropped his bike with three laps to go and handed the victory to Rossi, who pushed him to the limit.

In two weeks time, Rossi will just have to extend his lead over Ukawa to 11 points to be crowned World Champion.
