Ueda satisfied with his return to action in Estoril

Nobby Ueda made his long-awaited return from injury at Estoril last weekend and was pleased with his performance after three months of inactivity. The Japanese veteran rider, who was injured during practice at Mugello in June, has since been recovering at hospital in his homeland and was relieved to finally get back into his racing leathers in Portugal.

´I felt better than I expected and I rode in two very different types of conditions,´ he explains. `In rain I usually go really well but I didn´t want to push myself too much and risk a big fall because it was dangerous in the wet. I tried to back off but by the time I got up to seventh place I couldn´t help but slide and I had a little fall. I got back on but I had a slight problem with the brake and it made me fall again. I must have slid about 100 metres before getting a whack on my waist, but fortunately I was okay and I can look back on my comeback in a positive way.´

Ueda is now looking forward to racing in Rio, at a circuit which holds very good memories for him. ´I won there in 99 and I was second in 97. I set pole there once or twice too. Last year we couldn´t find a good set-up in the wet. The track has a very long straight and we will lose a bit of time to the Aprilia and the Gilera on top speed. This is worrying because I am desperate for a good result there´.
