Japanese riders attend Gauloises Pacific Grand Prix of Motegi presentation

Japanese MotoGP riders were greeted by crowds of race fans at an official presentation of the Gauloises Pacific Grand Prix of Motegi in Tokyo. Norick Abe, Tohru Ukawa, Daijiro Kato, Nobuatsu Aoki and Akira Yanagawa, who is set to ride the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-RR as a wildcard, attended the promotional event in which members of the public were able to openly mingle with their heroes.

The event took place in Odaiba, one of the more fashionable areas of the Japanese capital, and featured an exhibition of four-stroke race bikes, an historical display area and a video screen featuring action of the season so far. There was also a conference for the gathered press, where Tohru Ukawa declared that he was aiming for his second win of the season this weekend. `I am a bit sick of Rossi´s dominance this year and I have never won in Japan, so I am very motivated to do so and this could be the time.´

Norick Abe, who was the highest placed Japanese rider last year in fourth added: `I am fighting with my two-stroke machine and we have seen that it is not easy, but I have improved my lap times from past seasons at all the circuits. I am hoping for my best result of the season in Japan´.

Meanwhile, Nobuatsu Aoki explained: `The championship has changed radically with the arrival of four-stroke motorcycles. Mine is a two-stroke, three-cylinder machine and that makes things difficult over the course of the year. We are developing the tyres and I hope that I can give my all at Motegi and that the race is interesting. We will have to see how the weather fares over the weekend´.

Daijiro Kato is also determined to get a result, particularly having crashed out of the last two races: ´I couldn´t win at Suzuka earlier this year so I want to do so here. I rode the four-stroke for the first time at Brno and took second place, but the last two races were in the wet and I crashed. I want to stop Rossi and I want to win.´
