Barros delighted with RC211V debut day

The West Honda Pons team eagerly pulled the bubble wrap from their new Honda RC211V last night, and today it was Alex Barros´ turn to get excited as he guided it on to the track for the first time. The Brazilian, who has fought bravely all season aboard his two-stroke NSR500, admitted he had been looking forward to the moment for a long time and could not hide his enthusiasm for the machine when he returned to the pit box.

`That was awesome, a fantastic experience,´ beamed Barros, after taking a provisional grid position of sixth. `My grid position could have been better but I went off track and a stone broke my radiator, meaning we lost about 20 minutes of the session. It is a shame because we have a lot of work to do and I need to complete many laps in a short space of time. Anyway, sixth place is a satisfying result for my first outing with the bike.´

On the difference between the RC211V and the NSR500, Barros commented: `Obvioiusly it is a lot faster, very smooth and very easy to ride. It is clearly the way forward, as we have seen from Valentino all year. We have a few things to sort out with the front suspension and then I think we can be very competitive.´
