Barros guides RC211V to victory ahead of Rossi and Capirossi

Alex Barros took victory on his first appearance aboard the Honda RC211V 4-stroke, crossing the line ahead of MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi at the end of an action packed race. Barros´ team mate Loris Capirossi took third, after an awesome ride aboard the NSR500 which saw him stay with the leading pair for the majority of the race.

Local hero Daijiro Kato, who started from the pole position, diced with the front runners in the early stages of the race, but technical troubles forced him to retire on lap 8. On the previous lap Kawasaki´s MotoGP four-stroke debut was cut short when Akira Yanagawa crashed out. Max Biaggi was hit by technical problems when he was fighting for fourth with Tohru Ukawa, whilst his Yamaha team-mate Carlos Checa overtook Kenny Roberts to take fifth.

With Barros´ victory at their home circuit, Honda clinch the Constructors´ World Championship, whilst second place for Rossi sealed the team crown for Repsol Honda.
