Title chase wide open in Malaysia

The 125cc World Championship was blown wide open by exhaust pipe problems for Arnaud Vincent in Japan last weekend, as the Frenchman slipped from second to 15th place in the last couple of laps to see his title advantage slashed by 19 points to just eight from Poggiali. The World Champion, who took second place at Motegi, is now flying high on confidence after seeing a dismal run of form finally ended and will challenge for his first win since Catalunya in May at the Gauloises Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix this weekend.

Daniel Pedrosa took a brilliant second career victory in Japan after dominating practice and qualifying, and he is also back in with a title shout after the demise of Vincent. The 17 year old Spaniard is 16 points behind Poggiali in third place and 24 points behind the leader Vincent. He is still an outside bet for the title but if his performances over the last three races match his efforts last week then he could be in place to clinch the crown on home territory in Valencia next month.
