Mixed fortunes continue for Vincent

Mixed fortunes continue for Vincent

In just one week Arnaud Vincent has experienced more emotional highs and lows than most riders have to put up with in a whole season. Exasperation and dismay in Japan turned to joy in Malaysia before fate once again turned against him. Firstly the Frenchman blew an exhaust in the final laps at Motegi and dropped from second to fifteenth. Pedrosa took victory and returned to the title battle as Poggiali took twenty points to slash down Vincent´s advantage in the rider standings.

Yesterday the Aprilia man took his fourth victory of the season as Poggiali crashed out on the final lap and eventually finished ninth. It seemed like fortune had finally favoured the 27 year old until it emerged that a mistake by the flag waver meant that the standings on the previous lap would stand. Although Pedrosa lost a place and moved back to third, Poggiali was promoted to fourth to limit the points deficit to just 20 with two rounds still remaining.

Curiously, Vincent has the same amount of podium finishes as Poggiali with nine, but the pair have only coincided on the rostrum on four occasions in a season which has seen their luck and form interchange dramatically.
