Rossi dry spell sees 600th Italian win go to Biaggi

Valentino Rossi has contributed more than his fair share to the record number of victories achieved by Italian riders in the 54 year history of Motorcycle Grand Prix, but despite ten wins already this season the elusive number 600 went to Max Biaggi this weekend in Malaysia. The Roman Emperor´s clinical victory at the Sepang circuit coincided with a rough ride from Rossi, who was defeated in consecutive races for the first time this season and has now failed to win in dry conditions since the Sachsenring race back in July.

The MotoGP World Champion has still only missed out on the top step of the podium on four occasions, and apart from his dnf with tyre problems in Brno he has stood no lower than second. He has responded to each defeat with a victory – winning in Jerez after being beaten by Ukawa at Welkom and then at Sachsenring after his Brno nightmare. That was until this weekend, when Rossi was unable to make up for being beaten by Barros at Motegi despite throwing a late charge at Biaggi on the last lap.
