Jenkner takes provisional pole as Vincent struggles

Steve Jenkner took provisional pole position for the 125cc SKYY VODKA Australian Grand Prix after dominating the first qualifying sesison at Phillip Island today. The German set the early pace before being dislodged at the top of the time sheets by Alex De Angelis and Dani Pedrosa but he recovered top spot with 17 minutes remaining and held on despite the extremely blustery conditions.

Manuel Poggiali made a pole attack in the final few minutes but Jenkner tucked in to the World Champion´s slipstream and improved his own best time to hold off the Gilera rider in second place. De Angelis ended the session in third ahead of Pablo Nieto, who makes up the provisional front row in fourth.

Arnaud Vincent can become World Champion in the category this weekend but he started off in dismal fashion, qualifying 21st on the provisional grid, two and a half seconds slower than pole setter Jenkner. Daniel Pedrosa heads up the provisional second row and is joined by Simone Sanna, Youichi Ui and Andrea Dovizioso.
