Garry McCoy gets first taste of 4-stroke with Kawasaki in Valencia

Two days after the last Grand Prix of the season held in Valencia, Garry McCoy rode for the first time a 990cc MotoGP on the Ricardo Tormo track, as he joined Kawasaki, who will enter the 2003 MotoGP Championship with the new Ninja ZX-RR.

After this first contact with the new machinery from the Akashi-based maker, McCoy was enthusiastic, even if he knows that he will have to face a steep learning curve after spending five years aboard a 2-stroke 500cc. ´I´m happy, finally, I got a 4-stroke. I just have to take it smoothly, stay calm and avoid to do anything silly. I have to get comfortable with the bike. It´s quite different from what I´m used, it will take a couple of goes before I´m 100% comfortable´.

He added : ´There´s a few things we´ll change and it will takes time, but I´m pretty confident for the future´. $$$ Last sunday, his new team mate and aussie fellow Andrew Pitt scored the first points of Ninja ZX-RR in the World Championship, bringing the four-races program of the Kawasaki Racing Team to a satisfying end. However, Pitt knows there´s no room for complacency and is willing to make the most of the winter testing, alongside McCoy. ´The bike needs work, but I also need to do as many laps as possible, so testing is a good opportunity to build up experience. Garry has a lot of experience, and I think I´ll be able to pick a few things from him´.
