Italy just two wins behind USA

Italy could have equalled USA´s record of wins in the blue riband class with two further victories. Since Valentino Rossi won in Rio in 2000, the italian riders topped the podium 29 times out of 35 Grands Prix, and allowed Italy to close on the lead in the rankings of the most successful nation.

Kenny Roberts was the last american winner, back in 2000. He won the race held in Motegi on October 15th, ahead of Rossi and Biaggi. Since then, the total of american wins remained 150.

This year, the italian riders won 13 out of the 16 races. Brazil (with Barros) took two wins and Japan (with Ukawa), only one. After the 2002 MotoGP World Championship, Italy is 2 wins behind USA, with 148 wins, and ahead of Great Britain (138 wins). Australia is the fourth winningest nation with 84 wins, ahead of Spain (19 wins).
