Olivier Jacque hopeful before another season with Gauloises Yamaha

2002 proved to be a disappointing season for Olivier Jacque, but the Frenchman remains hopeful for the future. He has just inked a new deal with Gauloises Yamaha, to ride a YZR-M1 Yamaha alongside his new team mate, Alex Barros. With the onus on continuity, the former 250cc World Champion hopes to enjoy new successes in the MotoGP class.

`After a year of transition, I´m pleased to stay with Tech3,´ he says. `I raced with the 2-stroke Yamaha with little hope of success, and with the 4-stroke at the end of the season, and it was a great testing opportunity. I work perfectly with this team. We´ve been working together for a long time and we won the 250cc title together in 2000. At this level of competition, I believe the feeling with the technical staff is very important´.

This year, Jacque wasn´t able to defend his chances against the usual front runners of the class, but next season could match his expectations. ´We have everything we need to prepare 2003 with serenity. The YZR-M1 Yamaha has a lot of potential and we´ll test a lot this winter. We will be able to improve at every level´. $$$ Next year, Barros, one of the most impressive rider in the late stages of the season aboard the RC211V Honda, will be a solid addition to the French team. ´Alex Barros joining the team is a very positive point. He has a lot of experience in Grand Prix racing, knows how to set-up a bike and won races aboard the bike that won the title. I think we´ll do some good work together´.

´With Gauloises, Yamaha, Tech3 and Michelin, we do all we can to reach our goals of success´ concluded Jacque. Indeed, the winning formula seems not that far away, but there´s still an important step to take. A busy winter program lies ahead for the Frenchman, as a first testing session in Valencia in early December will kick off the 2003 season.
