No regrets for De Puniet despite a disappointing season

Randy De Puniet looks back on the 2002 season with a sense of disappointment but without regret, after failing to achieve the top five finish he had dreamed of back in April. The French youngster, who clocked up his 50th Grand Prix appearance during the season got an incredible start with second place at Suzuka but was unable to consistently maintain his form amongst the top rider in the class.

`I am a bit disappointed by this final result, as my goal was to finish in the top five´ he reflects. `I believe I could have achieved it without the three mechanical failures that cost me a lot of points. This ninth position doesn´t match my expectations for sure, but I don´t have any regret´.

In spite of the final result, the Frenchman is satisfied that he proved his ability to ride at the front of the category. `I had many satisfactions this year, as I finished twice on the podium in the first part of the season. After a dip in form during the summer, I managed to come back to my level and clinched the pole in Rio´. $$$ After a long and tough season, de Puniet is now making the most of the off season to heal old injuries and to think about his future, once again with the Campetella team. `I just underwent surgery, to remove a screw I had for two years in my tibia, after a crash in enduro. I have to rest for three or four weeks before I can do any sport again. Regarding the team, I will sign a new contract within a week´.
