Ducati kicks off three-day session in Phillip Island

The Ducati Corse MotoGP team have travelled to Phillip Island, in Australia, in order to complete a three-day testing session before the Christmas break. Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss carry on the development of the Ducati Desmosedici and were already on the pace on the first day. Despite gusty winds, the high temperatures (33°C on the track) allowed the riders to follow the schedule of the day, focussed on cooling systems and tyre testing, with the new 2003 Michelin tyres.

Riding at home, Troy Bayliss completed 87 laps and clocked a best time of 1´32.8. His team mate Loris Capirossi walked unscathed from a crash in the Honda curve. He was able to resume testing and completed 48 laps. Various glitches prevented the Italian from completing long runs, but he lapped in 1´32.4, a time close to the lap record from the Grand Prix in October. Tomorrow, the team will enjoy a day off and will resume testing on Thursday.
