Sylvain Guintoli returns to 250 with Campetella Racing

After a full season as back-up rider for the Gauloises Yamaha Tech3 effort in the MotoGP class, French youngster Sylvain Guintoli will be back in competitive action in 2003 after signing to ride for the Campetella Racing outfit in the 250cc World Championship.

`I have been in contact with the Campetella team for some time and I am very satisfied to be joining up with them,´ said Guintoli, who will take the place of Randy de Puniet and ride a 2003 Aprilia kit. `It is the best opportunity I have been offered. I wanted to find a place in a competitive team and ride an Aprilia´.

`I watched them closely last season and Randy spoke very well of them. After speaking with the team chiefs in Italy my positive impressions were confirmed. $$$ `I will have to readjust to the 250 but this will come naturally. Now everything is in place from a technical perspective I can concentrate on my physical preparation to be at optimum level when the season starts. I have planned to do a lot of cycling before the first tests, which will be at the end of January´.

Winner of the French National Open 250 Championship and third in the European series in 2000, Guintoli made his World Championship debut the following season with the Equipe de France GP team. His best result was fourth place at Assen and he finished the season in fourteenth overall. This year he contested one round of the MotoGP World Championship on the YZR500, finishing 17th at the Czech Republic Grand Prix.
