Porto completes quarter-litre trilogy

Sebastián Porto will next season complete a unique trilogy as he switches factories from Yamaha to Honda, meaning he will have ridden motorcycles of all three manufacturers currently contesting the quarter-litre championship.

Porto rode an Aprilia in 1995, `96, `97 and `98, switching to Yamaha for the last four years. During his time with the Italian factory the Argentinean had a best ever overall finish of eleventh in `97, whilst his best performance at a Grand Prix was sixth at the Dutch TT in `98. The switch to Yamaha in `99 bore immediate fruit as he moved up to a final position of ninth, missing out on the podium by just one place at his home Grand Prix.

Victory at Rio last season was the highlight of Porto´s Yamaha career and it was complimented by podium finishes at Brno, Estoril, Sachsenring and Phillip Island to give him fifth place in the final classification. Now, under the guidance of Alberto Puig, he begins a new era with a new factory as he takes control of one of just two official Hondas.
