Norick Abe aiming for MotoGP return

Norick Abe, who will this season serve as a test rider for the Yamaha M1 factory project, has already set his sights on a return to competitive action. The Japanese rider, who will begin work in February when fully recovered from injuries sustained at Phillip Island in October, hopes to contest several Grand Prix as a wildcard in 2003, and is optimistic that his performances can seal a MotoGP comeback for the following season.

´This year I will have less opportunities to show my potential, but my objectives of reaching the highest possible level have not changed,´ declared Abe. `This is the way I have always looked at things. At the moment I am completely resting as I recover from injuries to my left hand and shoulder, which are still not quite right just yet. I want to prepare for the year in the best possible way, both from a physical and mental point of view´.

Abe spent the end of the year in Spain, before returning to his native Japan for the holiday period, and revealed that he had positive discussions with his former team boss Luis d´Antin. ´I was with d´Antin and he thanked me for the results I have achieved in my time with his team´ he said. `He told me that if ever I need anything then I should ring him straight away - he was very interested in my future. I thanked him for everything he had done for me and apologised that the results were not better´.
