Ui quickest at 125cc Aprilia test

Youichi Ui ended a two day private test as the quickest 125cc Aprilia rider in Valencia yesterday, once again showing signs that he is back to his best form. The Japanese veteran, who was joint quickest on the first day of the test with home riders Hector Barberá and Pablo Nieto, improved by almost two seconds on Thursday to clock a 1´40.2, just 0.6 seconds slower than the pole time set by Dani Pedrosa at the final Grand Prix of last season.

Most of the riders completed a satisfactory test without major incident, although Gino Borsoi crashed at the end of the straight before returning to clock the sixth fastest time. Barberá and Nieto got to grips with the 2003 model Aprilia, with the former setting the second fastest lap of the session. `I am very happy because we were working with completely new bikes which have incorporated many changes compared to last year´s,´ said Barbera, who studies at a college based within the circuit facilities. `I am happy with the changes at the moment but there is a lot of work still to do.´ The next track date for the 125cc riders will be the IRTA tests at Jerez on the 19th February.

Unofficial times:

Youichi Ui 1:40.2 (70 laps); Héctor Barberá 1:40.6 (72); Álex de Angelis 1:40.9 (67); Pablo Nieto 1:41.0 (58); Steve Jenker 1:41.1 (60); Gino Borsoi 1:41.4 (59); Gioele Pellino 1:43.5 (60).
