Eric Bataille returns to World Championship with Honda BQR

Eric Bataille makes his return to the World Championship scene in 2003 after a season spent establishing his 250cc credentials in national and European competition. The Frenchman, who rode under the flag of Andorra in the 125cc class in 2000 and 2001, stepped up to the quarter-litre machine in 2002, winning the French Championship and finishing runner-up in the Spanish equivalent. After also contesting a handful of 250 Grand Prix with Honda BQR, he has now signed up for a full season with the Spanish outfit.

`I am just back from a holiday in the Dominican Republic and I am feeling ready to get back on a bike and prepare for the new season´, says Bataille. `I am a very active person and I made the most of my holiday to do lots of different sports. I also travelled around the country, which was amazing. Now I am looking forward to the next tests with the Honda BQR team and I am excited about starting the season with them´.

The 22 year old sees the upcoming IRTA tests in Jerez and Estoril as a vital opportunity to check out the competition for next season: `In December we tested in Almería and Valencia, but not with the new bikes. Also it was very cold so the tests were not really fruitful at all, apart from getting laps under my belt. Now we will have all the new material available and we can start to work on the set-up and adapting to all the changes´.

Bataille, who will ride a Honda RSW kit, will line-up alongside an old ally in Alex Debón: `He is a good friend. We began together three years ago and we get on great. I think sharing a team will help both of us. I have a lot of faith in this team. We will have good material, with help from Showa and top mechanics, so our aim is to fight in the lead group. I want to start sensibly, without rushing anything because it will be a long season´.
