Max Biaggi gave further indication that 2003 could see a more consistent title challenge from the Italian. From the pre-season Honda tests completed so far Biaggi seems to have gelled with the four-stroke and clocked some competitive lap times. As part of the Camel Pramac Honda squad the Roman ´Emperor´ made further progress with his new machine this week at private tests in Sepang when he was third fastest behind Daijiro Kato and arch-rival Valentino Rossi on Wednesday and Thursday.

Tyres seemed to be the main area of focus but then he also is still adapting to the new team environment. ´The two days here have been good training for me, we have covered many kilometres,´ he said. $$$´Michelin had so many tyres for us to test that I put in 70 laps. I was happy with the progress Michelin have made with the tyres since we were here a month ago, and I was pleased with the times I set. We tried several different things on the machine but ended the test with settings close to those we used in January. The pace shows that we did a good job back then and the team is able to find a good set-up quickly.

Biaggi was less than a second slower than Kato on both days and equalled Rossi´s time on Thursday. ´The other riders tried many things at Sepang so we hope to have something new next time we test. Now I go back to Nice, then on to a Moto Exhibition, in Lanciano, with my fans.´

The Italian could soon add a few more followers to his club come the start of the MotoGP World Championship if he carries his early speed and potential onto the biggest motorcycle racing stage.
