Bad weather hits private Honda and Aprilia tests at Mugello

Persistent rain ruined track conditions at Mugello today, where Honda riders Max Biaggi, Tohru Ukawa, Daijiro Kato and Sete Gibernau had been joined by Aprilia men Colin Edwards and Noriyuki Haga for the first of two days of private tests. There was no respite from the thick black clouds hanging over the Italian circuit until almost 2pm, when all of the riders except Gibernau and Ukawa decided to get some wet track time. The track dried sufficiently for the careful use of slick tyres, although Kato opted to play it safe and stayed on wets.

`Today when I got up and heard that there was snow on the Muraglione pass I thought it would be impossible to do any testing. It didn´t stop raining until after lunch but I wanted to get out there just to move around a little. We used a slick tyre but the track was not completely dry so we did about 20 slow laps and made sure we didn´t make any mistakes. The forecast is good for tomorrow so I hope to do about 50 laps and get a good set-up for this circuit.´
