Last weekend in Catalunya at the MotoGP test the latest video game for the PlayStation 2 that will attempt to bring the excitement and speed of the MotoGP World Championships to more homes around the world was presented to the press and the paddock. ´MotoGP 3´, set for launch in April, was unveiled by Chris Deering, Head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna and game producer Isao Nakamura.

In a short and suitably atmospheric launch, with a pavilion full of spectators sampling the third generation of the smash-hit game on specially erected stands, the new version was displayed and the deal behind the evolution of the product explained. Mr Deering commented that the 40 million unit sales of PlayStation 2 around the world would bring the sport onto a vast platform. Mr Ezpeleta referred to the thriving partnership between Sony and Dorna. ´We have enjoyed an association since 1997 and have been very pleased with the reception and success of the MotoGP video game. We hope this is a project that will continue for many years yet.

Mr Nakamura revealed some of the new features in the title, including 35 circuits, 100 Challenges, new `cockpit´ view, a four-player mode and hidden characters. He also stated that the games' developers had been granted very generous access to the actual GPs in order to accurately convey the sensation and ambience of the MotoGP.

Star riders Randy De Puniet, Fonsi Nieto, Roberto Rolfo, Chaz Davies, Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner were present and gave positive marks in terms of the game´s realism. Dorna and Namco have been partners since 1997 and the creation of the GP500 arcade machine. MotoGP 3 is the third instalment of the officially endorsed video game brought to the console by both parties.
