Metis Gilera Racing Team make official presentation in Italy

Since their return to Grand Prix racing in 2001, Gilera have had two outstanding seasons at the forefront of the 125cc World Championship. They clinched the title at their first attempt and finished runners-up last year, on both occasions with San Marino youngster Manuel Poggiali at the helm. A new structure for 2003 was unveiled today in Milan, where General Manager Giampiero Sacchi announced some important changes. The team has a new Technical Director in Olivier Liegeois, whilst they will be sponsored by recruitment specialists Metis.

`It will be a season which requires a lot of effort,´ said Sacchi. `We must consolidate the exceptional level of competition which we have reached over these past years. We have to confirm ourselves as one of the toughest but also the most exciting factories – this will put the seal on a project designed to last.´

$$$ Stefano Bianco, who will ride in the famous Gilera colours in 2003, was also at the presentation. `I feel a great responsibility but at the same time I have the confidence which forming part of a team of expert technicians breeds,´ said the 17 year old rider from Chivasso, Italy. `For the first time I am the only rider in an official team but I am relaxed and ready to give my all and pay back the faith they have shown in me. The winter tests have been very positive and also very important to get to know the bike and the team and I am counting down the hours until the first Grand Prix´.
