Shuhei Aoyama heads Suzuka wildcard list

Only two of the four wildcard riders set to take part in the 125cc SKYY VODKA GRAND PRIX have previously ridden at World Championship level. Honda pair Shuhei Aoyama and Toshihisa Kuzuhara both made their debuts in the series in 2001 at Motegi, whilst at the same time they were embroiled in a battle for the Japanese national title which saw them finish fourth and third respectively.

At just 18 years of age Aoyama is the youngest of the wildcard entries for the first round of the 2003 World Championship, although he is also the most experienced, having last season brought his total appearances up to five after contesting the Suzuka, Assen, Donington and Motegi rounds. After taking sixth place in the first round he was invited to replace Klaus Nohles in the PEV Moto ADAC Team and finished 25th at Assen, 10th at Donington and 11th at Motegi.

19 year old Kuzuhara finished eighth in his debut race, but crashed out of both events in Japan last season. The two remaining wildcards are 24 year old Akio Tanaka and 23 year old Sadahito Suma, who will both be making their debuts on Hondas.

125cc, 2003, Hiroshi Aoyama
