Interesting facts and statistics ahead of the SKYY Vodka Grand Prix of Japan

 Alex De Angelis starts from pole for the second time in his Grand Prix career, the other being at the Czech GP last year. De Angelis, who will be making his 50th GP start, has had a single podium finish – finishing second in Germany in 2002.

 This is the first pole for Aprilia in the 125cc class at Suzuka since Kazuto Sakata qualified at the front of the grid back in 1995. ./p>  Daniel Pedrosa finished in 8th place at Suzuka last year after scoring his first pole position in Grand Prix racing. .

 Lucio Cecchinello, who is the most experienced rider in the 125cc class, is making his 9th Grand Prix start at Suzuka, his best result at this circuit being a 4th place finish in 1998. .

 Mirko Giansanti's second place finish last year at Suzuka was his only podium finish of 2002. The last time Giansanti started from the front row was at the Rio GP in 2000. $$$  Stefano Perugini starts from his best grid position since he qualified in 5th place for the British GP in 2001 riding for Italjet. .

 World Champion Arnaud Vincent took the victory at Suzuka in 2002 having qualified down in 14th place on the grid. Vincent's victory last year was the first by a non-Japanese rider in the 125cc class at Suzuka since Dirk Raudies back in 1993. <
