Naoki Matsudo explains his feelings after the first Grand Prix of the season

`It has been five months since I rode the bike from the final race of last year. Although the motorcycle and the team is the same as I used in the second half of the 2002 campaign, so that we could properly adapt without problems in the little time we had before the first GP.
On the first day I focussed on regaining my rhythm and in the afternoon I tried to get some more kilometres but after three laps decided to return to the box because the track was damp and unpredictable. Finally I placed fifth.
In the race, even though I got a good start I almost crashed in the second lap on the Spoon curve, we did not have a good set-up with the suspension and this impeded me from being able to ride smoothly and record better laps. I am not really happy with my final placing of eighth and I´m sure the local fans expected a bit more of me, but at this early stage of the season taking some points is very important.

I feel very sad about the accident of Kato, we have been good friends for some years now. Other pals like Takuma Aoki and the older brother of Noriyuki Haga, Kensuke, two riders of my generation, are also now in wheelchairs after suffering accidents. As riders we have to give our opinion, and mine is that we have to ride with the maximum amount of safety possible. I hope that Daijiro gets better quickly.

The next race is in South Africa. I go to Germany on the 18th and on the 22nd I travel with the team to Welkom. At the back of the circuit there is a long straight and for sure we will need more performance from the engine. Our work before the event will be based around this area. ´
