In a joint statement, Mr Carmelo Ezpeleta (CEO of Dorna Sports) and Mr Webster Mfebe (Member of the Executive Council for Sport in the Free State) announced at the Phakisa Freeway today that they had signed a letter of intent for the extension of MotoGP at Phakisa for at least another three years. The parties have agreed to confirm all the details of the final agreement by no later than June 18th this year.

Mr Ezpeleta said: ´The hospitality in Matjhabeng is extraordinary in the world, and the organization is of the highest calibre in the MotoGP calendar. Last night at 11:00 pm, I was walking down the main road of the city and was overwhelmed by the joy this event brings to the people of the region.´

Mr Mfebe says MotoGP hadn´t only met his expectations but far exceeded them in terms of the economic impact, not only in the Lewjeleputswa district but South Africa as a whole. He was delighted that MotoGP, an event with a worldwide TV audience of over 300 million viewers, would continue to host a round of their World Championship at Phakisa.
