Sebastián Porto: `I want to return happiness to Santa Fe´

Sebastián Porto has arrived at his European base in Barcelona before heading south to Jerez later this week for the Gran Premio Marlboro de España. However, the Argentinean remains in permanent contact with his home country as floods continue to wreak havoc in his home province of Santa Fe, where more than 23 people have died and 20,000 homes left underwater, with the cost of the material damage reaching some 300 million dollars.

`The solidarity is very strong but despite everything being done it is not enough to repair the damage,´ says Porto. `The majority of flooding happened during the night. It is a real tragedy for my province. I will race this weekend for the highest possible position in the race because I would like to bring some happiness to the people of Santa Fe´.

The city of Rafaela, birthplace of the Telefónica Movistar Jr Team rider, is close to the Santa Fe capital, where Porto flies from on his regular trips out of the country. `When my friends here in Spain ask me about what has happened in Santa Fe, I show them this photo from the Children´s Hospital – a modern and efficient public hospital which was left covered by water and lost lots of valuable equipment. What you see in the photo is nothing. It will be very difficult to reconstruct what has been lost and recover a city lost under the water. I know that Alberto Puig will support me and his mechanics will give all they have, as they did in the first two races. But in Jerez I will be giving everything I have to finish as high as possible and bring a smile to all those people who have nothing else left.´
