Kato: A great Champion is remembered at Suzuka

The Japanese circuit of Suzuka have organised an exhibition in homage to Daijiro Kato. The memorial, that is open to the public opened on May 22nd and will run until June 1st, will be located in the historical gallery on site. The layout includes a selection of special photos celebrating the races contested by the rider at his favourite racetrack, as well as some of the former 250cc number one's machinery, like the quarter-litre machine with which he won the title in 2001 and the bike he used to rule the 2002 Suzuka 8 hour, the VTR1000SPW. Also on show are a collection of trophies and leathers. Videos of the 2001 Grand Prix of Japan and the 2002 8 hour will be displayed.

On May 18 Honda held their own tribute to Kato and more than 9000 people came to pay their respects at the their HQ in Tokyo. The fans that could not make it along to the Honda ceremony will now have a chance to mourn their idol at a venue where he enjoyed a lot of success and first began to make his name on the World Championship scene.

Aside from the exhibition the Japanese Championship also takes place this weekend at Suzuka. Before the race, all of the riders, combined with the teams and spectators, will observe one minute of silence.
