Lucio Cecchinello: `I am happy with the results of the team and it is my dream to win at Mugello´

Winner in Jerez, second in Le Mans and only five points away from Championship leader Pedrosa, Lucio Cecchinello is definitely in a spell of good form. In this interview, the rider and owner of the Safilo Oxydo-LCR team analyses the last few results of his ´pupil´, Casey stoner, and the aspirations of the squad in a very close title race.

`I am very satisfied with the result in France´, explained the Venecian rider. `I am convinced that with Casey´s ride in Le Mans we have seen the arrival of a great competitor in the second half of the season. Casey still has a lot of things to learn, I have never seen a rider jump on an Aprilia and go very fast from the word ´go´. I know that the bike is very sensitive and any adjustments can be crucial. Casey will need seven or eight races to gain confidence and learn the aspects of the motorcycle and the mechanics have to adapt quickly to what he needs in order to be able to ride quicker. But I think that his fourth position is the starting point of some important races; he is the future and it is very important that he keeps the momentum´.

Concerning his own situation and second place last weekend he said: `For me it is more important to be developing the team, that the squad has creditability and gains some good sporting results. Aside from this, I am very happy with my results in Jerez and Le Mans but I want to keep my feet on the ground. Last year I also had good races in Spain and France (winning both GPs) then afterwards I did not win again until the Czech Republic, for this reason I want to remain calm. I basically want to score in all the races and try not to make mistakes´.

About the next race, the Cinzano Grand Prix of Italy, Cecchinello revealed: `The home GP is always very important, obviously, but also in my case the circumstances are very special because in nine appearances I have never stood on the podium in my country. I did not enjoy this feeling, and I would really like to make it happen this year; of course, the dream is to win in Mugello. I really hope I can make it a reality at this race. With Casey we have made a plan to ride together in the qualifying because if he is near the leading group maybe we could take a great result for the team´.

The Italian confessed that he was very impressed with the form of Pedrosa last weekend at the French race: `When Pedrosa started pulling away like he did I had a scare, and not only just for the race, because if he could perform this way with regularity then it would be impossible to contest for the Championship. In a close category like the 125s class it is a great privilege to arrive on the last lap and not need to have to fight with any other riders. I think his work was incredible, a perfect race and he has a very competitive bike along with the total support of HRC.
He wont be like this in all the races, even though at some circuits that require a lot of acceleration and don't have a lot of long straights he could be too strong again. For our part, we have now spoken with Aprilia, and we have worked out some ideas to get more performance, more aerodynamics, more of everything basically. They have recognised that this is a difficult Championship and the end of the season is going to be very hot!´ .
