Dainese unveiled as MotoGP Official Safety Partner

Italian Technical Equipment company Dainese has become the new MotoGP Safety Partner for 2003 and 2004 after striking an agreement with Dorna Sports. This collaboration, which was announced today at the Gran Premi Marlboro de Catalunya, means that Dainese will install its D-Mobile laboratory at all the European rounds to develop the latest safety products.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO Dorna Sports, commented: `Safety is the most important issue and after the death of Daijiro Kato it has become even more prominent. Each Saturday I have a meeting with Valentino Rossi and the other rider representatives to discuss safety issues. We are doing our best to ensure the riders´ safety at the tracks, and companies like Dainese provide extremely important protection for the riders themselves and we will continue to support that.´

Representing Dainese, Vittorio Caffagi said : `We have developed rider safety equipment since the 1970's, when we made the first back protector for Barry Sheene. Since then we have applied the latest technology to come up with things like composite protectors and carbon fibre gloves. In the future we plan to introduce airbags – it will not be easy but we believe it is the road we must investigate to continue to improve rider safety.´
