First win for Jenkner makes it 150 for Aprilia

It was a strange twist of fate, typical of motorcycle racing, that Aprilia´s 150th Grand Prix victory would be scored by a man who had never won before. Two years ago at the Dutch TT Steve Jenker had scored his first career podium and on Saturday he scored his first ever victory – one hour before Australian Anthony West would repeat the feat, also on an Aprilia, in the 250cc class.

Jenkner´s win was celebrated by the whole Aprilia fraternity, who held up a sign to recognise the achievement whilst the German stood on top of the podium, and later a commemorative photo of Loris Reggiani was unveiled – the rider who scored the Noale factory´s first ever win at Misano in 1987 on a 250.

$$$ It was a symbolic moment for the Exalt Cycle Red Devil rider, who at the age of 28 has finally established himself as a firm contender for the 125cc World Championship title. Jenkner seems to have discovered the consistency he has lacked in past seasons, and he now lies just 26 points behind series leader Dani Pedrosa after taking four podiums from the first four races.
