Youichi Ui disillusioned by Donington

Youichi Ui left Donington Park on Sunday knowing that his hopes and expectations for his favourite racetrack had not been met. The Japanese veteran has been working hard since the beginning of the season to set-up his Aprilia and was hopeful of a return to the top positions, where he believes he belongs, on Sunday. However, things began to go wrong on Saturday when he crashed and broke a metatarsal bone in his foot.

`This circuit is one of my strongest – I know it very well and I am always confident, but this weekend it just didn´t work for me´, he confessed. `I just could not get a good time, I didn´t feel good on the bike and I ended up crashing´.

The Sterilgarda Racing rider started the race from fourteenth on the grid and fought his way up to sixth by the third lap. However, his race ended one lap later when he touched with the KTM of Arnaud Vincent and fell. `My handlebar got tangled with Vincent´s machine and it was all over. Things went badly all weekend and I find it hard to take´.

Despite his obvious disappointment, the jovial Japanese star did take some positives from the meeting: `We at least got to test many different things,´ he said. `Because this was my favourite circuit I was able to pinpoint some of the problems with the bike. Now we can hopefully leave them behind and improve over the next few races.´
