Olivier Jacque guest of honour at the World Transplant Games

Olivier Jacque was one of the guests of honour invited to the opening ceremony of the World Transplant Games that took place last Sunday in Nancy, France. The French MotoGP star joined other distinguished guests to promote the special event, including double Judo World Champ Marie-Claire Restoux, football legend Michel Platini, patron of the games, and the actor Larry Hagman, of ‘JR' fame from the popular TV show Dallas, who undertook a transplant operation some years ago.

This is the 14th edition of the World Transplant Games and the first time they have been held in France. The gathering sees 1500 competitors from 57 countries taking part. The athletes, all of whom have experienced a transplant of a vital organ, have convened for six days to contest various sports and diverse activities. The objective is to highlight the success rate of transplant operations and promote the donation of vital organs.

Originally from Villerupt, in the Moselle region, Jacque himself had to overcome a number of serious injuries and personal difficulties before making it to the top of his own sport and is an emblematic figure for many of the competitors.
