Ajo Motorsport claim Kallio is under contract

In the wake of the shock news two days ago that Mika Kallio would replaced sacked World Champion Arnaud Vincent at KTM, his current team Ajo Motorsport have released a statement claiming that the Finnish youngster is still under contract with them until the end of next season. Ajo Motorsport Ltd say that they signed a four year contract with Kallio at the end 2000 when he was still racing in Scandinavia, before bringing him through the European Championship and helping him to the Rookie of The Year title in the 2002 125cc World Championship.

"We were quite surprised when KTM released information that Kallio has signed a contract with them," declared Team Manager Aki Ajo. "From our point of view Mika is still signed with us till the end of 2004. The current situation is not very good for us at the moment because we have contracts where we have committed that Mika will race in our team whole season"

"We had already started to negotiate for Mika a factory contract for season 2004, but we couldn't know that he was already negotiating with KTM because in our contract all negotiation rights belong to us. The fact is that Mika has now made an unthinking movement and he has valid contracts with two teams. Anyhow we hope that before Brno this problem can solved and all parties can soon start to concentrate on the main things."

125cc, 2003, Mika Kallio
