De Angelis makes spirited late charge for pole

Alex De Angelis emerged on top of the pile and at the front of the grid for tomorrow's 125cc race after an entertaining battle for pole position. Dani Pedrosa was unable to hold provisional pole after interchanging positions at the top of the time sheets throughout the final session with De Angelis, Stefano Perugini, Lucio Cecchinello and Steve Jenkner, who had looked set for top spot until the San Marino youngster's last lap effort of 2'08.100, a new pole record at the Brno circuit.

Jenkner was relegated to second spot on the grid and he is joined on the front row by Cecchinello and Pedrosa. Perugini, second in the championship behind Pedrosa, starts from the front of a cosmopolitan second row after qualifying fifth fastest ahead of Spain's Pablo Nieto, Swiss youngster Thomas Luthi and Gabor Talmacsi of Hungary.
