De Puniet wins three-way thriller in Brno

Randy De Puniet won the 250cc GP of the Czech Republic today and the finest race in his short career after an exciting dice with Toni Elias and Manuel Poggiali.

The Aprilia trio pulled away from the pack mid-way through the 20 lap distance and treated the 45,000+ fans packed into the Brno circuit to some electrifying racing. The tussle had everything: block passes, near collisions, riders taking a variety of lines on the wide track and position changes too numerous to count. Finally it was the Frenchman who carved a small margin on the final lap whilst Elias and Poggiali tripped themselves up trying to nail a firm advantage for the runner-up spot that helped the 22 year old score his second victory of the season.
All three crossed the line within one second of each other.

Roby Rolfo completed a lonely ride in fourth ahead of Sebastian Porto while Fonsi Nieto and could not live with the pace of the leaders and had to settle for sixth. Franco Battaini, Sylvain Guintoli, Naoki Matsudo and Hector Faubel rounded off the top ten.

Poggiali still leads the Championship standings, now by nine points over Nieto, ten from Rolfo and only fifteen away from De Puniet.
