Busy weekend in Argentina for Sebastián Porto

Sebastián Porto enjoyed a busy weekend in his hometown of Rafaela in Argentina last week, having travelled over for a short holiday after the tenth round of the season at Brno. The Honda rider's visit coincided with a touring car event, one of the most popular series' in Argentina, and the 250cc World Championship contender took the opportunity to experience four-wheeled racing first hand. On Friday afternoon he was invited by top driver Walter Hernández, who like Porto is sponsored by Spanish petrol giants Repsol-YPF, to ride as a co-driver in his Ford.

Having spent all day signing autographs on Saturday, Porto was then applauded by the 40,000 crowd before the race on Sunday morning as he completed a lap of honour at the 50-year-old circuit riding his own Honda VTR 1000 street-bike decorated in his racing livery.

"Even though there has not been a Grand Prix in Argentina for quite a long time the people of my country are still very interested in the sport and follow my progress," said Porto, who has often commented on his desire to race touring cars at the end of his motorcycling career. "The support I have received here this weekend has been incredible. It was a happy coincidence that I was on holiday here at the same time that the touring cars series was in my hometown. I was hoping to come along as a spectator but the chance to experience it from so close was like a nice gift which lasted all weekend!"
