Valentino Rossi (1st): ""We made a good lap time but we still have much work to do for the perfect set-up. We need to pay attention to the rear of the machine. I have a good feeling from the tyres but I need a little bit more grip and I think we can make the difference by working on the rear shock. I also have a little trouble with chatter from the front of the bike. We have a lot of data from today and we will work hard this evening and tomorrow to find the best set-up for the race on Sunday.

Olivier Jacque (2nd): "After the positive tests at Brno I knew we would be more competitive here – but I didn't realise how much! This morning was a little frustrating as a couple of little technical problems held us back but we made a couple of changes and everything came together – proof that if you get the set-up just right on the Yamaha you can go fast".

Max Biaggi (3rd): "I had a slight fever last week and my throat is still a bit sore from it, but otherwise I'm ready to work on some changes we're going to make for tomorrow's session and we think we have a pretty good idea they will work. The track is dusty as we expected but it should be better tomorrow."

Tohru Ukawa (4th): "After Brno we developed some new settings and they worked really well. I think we've finally found the right balance for the bike. We made many small changes to the geometry and even the riding position. It was windy out there but nothing too bad and we're still looking for a bit more rear traction. But things are getting better and I've found a new energy from this improvement."
