Quotes from the provisional front row

Sebastian Porto (1st): "It was a good first day and the engine was working well. Top speed is not so important here so we don't have so much of a disadvantage to the Aprilias. I want to dedicate this provisional pole to my team-mate Dani Pedrosa – his crash was a big shock to all of us and we are hoping he gets better as soon as possible."

Franco Battaini (2nd): "There is still some work to do on the engine set-up but the cycle part of the bike is fine. Pole would have been fantastic but second place is still great."

Toni Elias (3rd): "I am satisfied with today's session. Perhaps it wasn't quite what I was hoping for but never mind – tomorrow we will continue working on the set-up of the bike and improve where we can, assuming the weather allows it. Third place today is not bad considering that I spent the whole session on race tyres. We are working very well and I am in good shape, which is bringing us good results. Dani's crash was a real shame and I would just like to wish him a speedy recovery."

Fonsi Nieto (4th): "We have started well here – I think I could have set a quicker time but there was a lot of traffic on the track on the final laps and I wasn't able to. I think we are working on the right lines and tomorrow I will be out to improve my time and find a good rhythm for Sunday's race. This is one of my favourite circuits and I think we are capable of a good result. Let's see if we can also help out Toni so that he can cut back more points to Poggiali".
