Nicky Hayden, 3rd position:

"It is really nice to get my first proper podium! I track was really slippery at first so I had to be careful, I saw Loris and Valentino go but I knew that I did not have the speed to keep with them. We had a decent fight and I wanted that third place real bad. Going into the last three laps I could see ‘P5' on my lapboard and I had to go for it. I made a move on Sete and knew I had to hook the bike up and get it to the line if I was going to hang on. I am really happy to be up here and want to thank the team and all the sponsors."

Loris Capirossi, runner-up:

"I didn't understand what was happening. I saw the time difference on my pit-board and wondered what was going on. With the pace and rhythm that Valentino had today I knew I would not be able to catch him. I aimed for second and this is a good result for me because the last three races have been difficult. My thanks go to the team for their work."

Valentino Rossi, Winner:

"It was an incredible race. I knew I had a better rhythm than the others and the fight was nice at the beginning but I wanted to break away because it was a little bit dangerous thanks to the wind. With a three second lead I looked at my board and saw ‘10' and did not realise what I had to do for another few laps until I then saw the penalty board. For this to happen twice in one season is crazy. I did not see the flags. At this stage I thought that I had nothing to lose because the Championship was already won so I tried very hard to extend my advantage; to win is unbelievable."
